Club Picnic and Course Cleanup - Sunday June 2nd

Hi everybody! please come join us Sunday June 2 to help clean up trash and branches off the course. The club is providing Hamburgers/Hotdogs for everybody that helps out. Then after a long lunch we'll play our normal Random Doubles round.

Schedule
Cleanup begins @ 10am.
Lunch will start cooking at Noon.
Then we'll play doubles after lunch (1:30ish)

baskets have been moved for "Birds and the B's"

The baskets are in place for the Birds and the B's. Although i think we didn't move 1 or 2 because of large rain puddles.
The majority of tees will be the Red pads, with a few Blues mixed in for shot variety. BTW.. Anybody that says this layout is a 'Lefty Layout' will be slapped with a trout. It is very righty friendly configuration. Go practice, and remember you only get TWO (2) discs during competition.

Pre-registration Discounts for monthly events!

Both the "Birds and the B's" and "Juggernaut" events are open for pre-registration! Yay! Please pre-register so we can be prepared for the numbers attending, including Juniors. Everybody that pre-registers recieves an automatic $5.00 discount (per player or per team). Freestate Doubles

Freestate Doubles has officially started. Just show up to doubles Sunday mornings and you are in! Points accumlate based on how much higher or lower you are to the average. The top 4 (and anyone else who wishes) go on to a state tourney to represent Southern Maryland.

Tis the season! - Thursday Club Night starts this week.

Thursday Club nights are back and starting this week (March 14th). The first two thursday will be 'warm up' rounds, so results will not be collected, but we will re-open the thursday ace pot which is currently $75 and capped.

- The Southern Maryland Disc Golf Club received a solid cost estimate for the tee signs that will placed on the Hot Shots Disc Golf Course. There will be 36 brand new tee signs permanently placed on the course. Two tee signs per hole, one at the Blue tee pad and one at the Red tee pad. - The sponsor space on the tee sign is roughly 3"x8" at the bottom of the tee sign. * Last week Park & Rec cut down a large number of trees on fairways for little to no reason at all. Holes most effected are 3, 6, 9, and 11. Next time you play a round through, take another look around and see if you can think of a way to change the hole to improve design. Some options would be: 1) Relocate baskets 2) relocate rubber teepads 3) plant new trees. We need your help for ideas to keep our course both diverse and challenging for all skill levels. * Last week's meeting went well. ... more

* Last week's meeting went well. I hope to post meeting minutes this week if not tonight. Some quick notes:

- Sunday Ace Pot is now a 75% payout. The other 25% will roll over to next week to begin the ace pot. So if we've collected $300 and somebody hits the ace, they will get payed $225 and the remaining $75 will start the next ace pot.
- The club will be running competitive Montly Events (Monthlies) all year. The first event (January 20) is the Ice Bowl. February has not been determinedet, but we've identified most of the months at the meeting. More details later.
- 2013 Club Memberships are in the works. The club membership package will include a Polo Shirt with club logo, towel, bag tag, etc and also includes discount for all Club Monthly entrance fees.

Bag Tag results

Thanks everyone for a very successful inaugural season. Leaderboard has been updated with the final season results. The top 3 tags were in play at Sunday’s final. Congrats to Jerry, Trevor, and Keith for winning finishing in first ($30), second ($20), and third ($10). The random draw prizes ($10) have been awarded to Steve T, Bucky, and Sean VB. Some plaques will be made up and given to the winners later in the year.

Bag Tag Finale - Tomorrow (sunday) after doubles

Sorry for the late post. The bag tag match play tourney will start after doubles tomorrow. Don't need to bring anything special other than your bag tag.

The format is seeded singled elimination bracket style play. Any wild card matches will be best of 6 holes. All regular matches will be best of 9 holes. Any ties will be played sudden death.

To qualify for the champion division players must finish in the top four of any weekly league or top twenty in Freestate standings. The Freestate Doubles Championship will be at Rockburn on Sunday, Nov 4 @ 10 am. There will be two divisions, champion and field. To qualify for the champion division players must finish in the top four of any weekly league or top twenty in Freestate standings. All other players will participate in the field division.

LAST CALL for ACE RACE registrations

Thursday Club Night - It's Glow Golf Season

Starting October 11th @ 7pm will be the first Glow round. We will be playing the front 9 twice each night. Please arrive by 7pm so you can set up your discs and start by 7:30. This time will change when we turn the clocks back in Novemeber. The thursday Ace Pot (capped at $75 is rolling over to the glow rounds).

This thursday, Oct 4th, will be the final Thursday Daylight club round starting at 5:15. We are starting earlier due to limited daylight. Groups are encourages to start when you have a 3 person card.

Update: Huge thanks to everyone that helped put on the show. We had a good turn out and both the scouts and parents had a fun time. Special thanks to Sean for landing the gig and the pizza for lunch.


Our club is providing a disc golf seminar tomorrow for a local Boy Scouts troop. We will have some portable baskets and loaner discs for the scouts to use. This will be following our normal sunday Random Doubles. Everyone is encouraged to come help as we will be splitting into groups and playing 9 holes (front 9) after the putting and driving seminar.

Hot Shots Shootout league tourney

Scores are in and up to date. I am still working on updating the spreadsheet for everyones average scores being used for the tournament next week. I should have it done today. Just a reminder, next week everyone will be starting the tourney with a clean slate. No points, scores, or anything will be carried over from the previous weeks. Handicapping tag matches -
Less skilled players should not be shy about challenging or being challeged by better players, no matter how much you feel out-matched! Try negotiating for a handicap by asking for extra strokes and/or mulligans. Although it is up to the Challenged player to accept or deny any handicap, the higher skilled challenged player will most likely welcome the added challenge to defending their tag.

Here's how stroke handicaps work: Let's say you and the challenged player agree to give you a handicap of (5) strokes. You finish hole 1 with a 4 and the challenger finishes with a 3, but now you can decide to use (1) of your (5) strokes to tie the hole -or- use (2) strokes to win the hole. This must be decided before teeing off the next hole. When you run out of strokes you must continue playing straight up. This is a great way to handicap if you want to keep the speed of play fast, and stroke handicap is probably the best way to even out a match between a less skilled player and a higher skilled player.

Mulligans work similarly but you have to re-throw your mulligan when declared which must be declaired before the next throw. When playing a mulligan, the previous throw becomes null and void. The rethrow must be played. Handicapping with mulligans is better when you are more closely matched in skill to your challenger when only a few mulligans will even up the match because their is more risk when rethrowing.

Lastly, challenges do not need to be honored immediately. The challenged player can give the challenger at least two (2) times to meet in the next two (2) weeks or they must forfeit the tag. If the challenger cannot meet that timeline, the challenge is void. Not showing up for a match results in a forfeit (20 minute leeway). Also the challenged player picks the course, the tees, and the number of holes. The course does not need to be Hot Shots!

Juggernaut Reminder and some notes and a little help needed.

Registration is open from 8:00am until 9:00am. Player meeting is 9:15am. Please arrive by 8:30am so you have time to register, practice, and stretch. Remember $30 a team.
1) If anybody needs a partner, please let me know.
2) Please bring a LARGE COOLER with ICE if you have one. We will need it for water bottles.
3) We may need somebody to bring the food from Adam's Ribs in Prince Frederick. If anybody isn't planning on playing but coming to the event, please consider running for the food and helping serve it.

THANK YOU, SAYBURR CONSTRUCTION!

Probably old news now, but the concrete has set and is playable. We still need to mark/paint the road pads more clearly, but ya'll should know where they're at. The concrete layout is a bruiser. Hats off to Jeff, Mike, and the rest of the crew who helped with the installation. The hard work has payed off. These teepads are AWESOME and CHALLENGING, yet still VERY FAIR. Great work all around.

All procedes raised at the Juggernaut (June 2nd) will be used to pay off the bills associated with the concrete.

We are planning to get a truck to the course to pour concrete on Friday 5-11-12 between 4 and 6 PM. It was too much trouble to mix everything ourselves, and just as expensive as a truck would be. We are looking for anybody willing to help move wheel barrows, clearing out leaf areas, and concrete spreading/ smoothing. The sooner this gets done the quicker we will all enjoy new pads. Come out and lend a hand.

Saturday 5-5-2012 Work Day at Hot Shots

We are hoping to start pouring some concrete for the new pads on 2 and 9. All the help we could get would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking we could gather between 9 and 10. I believe we have all the equipment we need. All that is left is to mix and pour. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Freestate Doubles begins

Our freestate doubles league will begin next Sunday April 1st at 10:00 a.m. Doubles works the same way for our league, however you now have an opportunity to compete in a Maryland Freestate Doubles championship on November 4th. Points are entered right into the Freestate Doubles league and you should receive a post on your profile page. Points are as follows: Each player starts with 5 points per event. 1) Hot Shots Shootout (Singles league) will begin Thursday, March 29th at 5:30 (to maximize daylight). 2) The Tags for the Bag Tag league won't be shipped until first week of April. Newtowne Neck

Newtowne Neck in Compton was purchased by the state for a park. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will be holding a meeting to hear public input sometime this winter about the state park’s future. It would be awesome if everyone could attend this meeting to suggest disc golf as a possible activity for this park.
