I think we oughta try Kyle's idea for awhile (it sounds a little complicated, but we can probably come up with a system to track the 9-drive thing). Stu, I think we've tried every possible variation of A-player red and B-player yellow over the years and, while some of them are okay, it's never quite the level playing field everybody seems to want. Random is good IMHO. Anybody up for 530 dubs tomorrow? I'm finally off on Tuesdays and, if my morning goes well (ahem), I'll be wanting to play.

Yeah, that's how it was when I left. With a-red, b-yellow, and women having the option to shoot the blues, if they so desired. And in turn completely random pairings. That seemed to be popular. There were at least 25-30 people a week if memory serves...

As long as we're throwing ideas out I've been thinking about this for a while now. What do you think of a totally random draw with no divisions. We would end up with some "unfair" pairings sometimes but I think that things would even out a little by doing it this way and it would introduce a lot of strategy into the round. An example would be, you're on hole 16 and you've taken 8 drives from the player A and 7 from player B. Player A parks it and player B leaves it 30 feet short. Now you want to take the parked drive for the guaranteed bird but player B has a lot of trouble with holes 17 and 18 and if you take the parked shot that means you have to take player B's drives on holes that they aren't confident on. So do you take the easy bird and cross your fingers hoping he does well on the last two holes or risk the thirty footer so you have a choice of drives on the last two? Sounds like it could be a lot of fun, to me at least.
It seems like this could solve the tee pad thing too or at least make it so that the beginner contributes.

Instead of pairing up an A player with a B player, we randomly draw and pair up A players with another A player and B players with B players. This will create two seperate pots to payout. Serioulsy, who cares how big they are? This may result in some weak payout for one of the divisions on any given week, but who cares about payout?! This will also enable us to play a veriety of tee pads without pushing anyone beyond their skill level. personly, I would like to play from the reds once in a while, but would want to force a beginner to do so. Team Utah/creekside dubs has had a lot of success with this model over the years. At least this addresses the cost, and the tee pads. any thoughts on this suggestion??

As far as starting time goes, I don't think there's really a solution. As it is now it starts too late for some and too early for others.

Just to put my two cents in, I'm not sure that money is the big problem. Not entirely, anyway. I kinda hate to bring it up since it always seems to cause an argument but I think one of the big problems is playing the red tees or whatever tees someone decides to make up that day. I think most people are fine with kicking down ten bucks if they honestly think they have a chance to contribute to the team's score. But playing reds pretty much takes the lesser skilled/shorter thrower out of the game. ... more

But playing reds pretty much takes the lesser skilled/shorter thrower out of the game. Why would a player who has no chance of putting their drive close on most if not all of the holes want to play? Why would a player want to spend ten bucks when the only chance they have to win anything back is drawing one of maybe three or four guys who can reach the basket? We all know how much it sucks to feel like you're doing nothing for your team. I understand that playing longer/more difficult positions makes you a better player but, in my opinion, doubles is not the time for it. Doubles is about fun and meeting new people, or at least it was and when a new player comes and has no chance to contribute why would they come back? Just my opinion.

I agree with both of ya, dubs has drifted into something else. It saddens me to hear about club problems. I miss the days when I was able to be a big part of doubles, but the money thing is what drove me away from it. I like Justin's idea with free play and ctp's and or ace pot option. I was out to the course today and was sickened at the sight of 7's basket just about completely uprooted. Kent and I are going to put an alternate sleeve in to the left and deeper and then we can re-set the origin ... more

No Lex. I did't take any offence. Your absolutely right about tournament costs, and Dubs shouldn't drain anyones pockets. Its important to speak your mind brother, thats how things have always been in this club. I think, and this is my opinion, we should just make dubs free to play for a while. Maybe have some options to buy into, ace pot, ctps?

i hope that are more people that show up to doubles, you make a great point, in which that is how the club has supported itself fore many years, and i hope that it will continue to due the same for many more to come. i hope you didn't take my post wrong, i will always support nudga and proud to be one. i just don't get why did it become so expensive to play? i have a hard time wrapping my head around why tournaments cost so much?

Yeah I hear you Lex. This year has been packed with events, but I assure you that the people that still want to play are there for the right reasons. I still had fun on tuesday. I got to see an old friend that had come for his first doubles of the summer ( it was only my second outing for dubs this year) I also got to meet a new club member, who turned out to be a real cool dude. Thats what dubs is about, seeing your buddys, meeting new people, and learning how to get better at discgolf. We did ... more

And we decided that we will continue tuesday dubs. That being said, Tues Dubs is not dead, just struggling. Lets not forget that NUDGA raised the money to improve the course through small events, and in the past we raised a lot of funds through the club dollar donations at Tues dubs. Tuesday doubles is not dead, don't kill it!
