Wildwood Baskets are IN!!
We played a dusk round tonight on our new Wildwood course at Deerfield Nature Park. The tee signs and directional signs have yet to be planted (Tuesday?), so if you decide to play it, there's a pretty good chance you'll get lost! :) Thanks to everyone who has helped make this happen, and thanks to the Isabella Parks for their help too (especially TJ and Zach!).
Here's a google map of the layout that may help until the signs are in: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=208296612726450395794.0004cc3f8a4d2a7061361&msa=0

We (Simon, Brendan, TJ, Zach and I) put in a good day yesterday digging out and placing rocks on 18L, 5L and 7S, adding fill dirt and grass seed to all the pads on holes 1 thru 9 and cleaning up some of the pad areas. The last nine should be finished today. The tee signs are being painted with the auger being rented this week. TJ assures us that he's planting baskets tomorrow (Sunday) night (just in time for me to leave on vacation!). Feel free to stick around after doubles today if you want to pitch in. One week 'til the JBird!

Rally The Troups!
The Isabella Parks department is bringing in extra bodies and equipment over the next 2 days to try and wrap up what is the awesome project we like to call "Wildwood"! If you have any free time, please make a point to join us in the final stages of getting this course DONE. I will be at the park tomorrow by 10am, so if/when you get there, shoot me a text @ (989) 506-7917 and we'll put you to work. Thanks!!

Please Stay off the Wildwood Tee Pads
Yes, all 36 tee pads have been poured on Wildwood. That's great, but let's let them cure properly before we get on them. Besides, there's no baskets to throw at yet anyways. We'll let you know as soon as the course is ready...and it's getting close! Thanks guys and gals!
Craig Clingan June 16 at 11:45am
Make your Dad proud - work on Wildwood!

Wildwood Work - Friday 4pm
The first tee pads were poured yesterday!! They want to do the next pour early next week and we have 9 holes (18 pads) to finish prepping. They've been dug out by the tractor so we just need to set and level the frames. Hope you can make it! The more we get done today, the less we'll have to do this weekend. Thanks y'all!

Let's get together tomorrow and Friday starting at 6pm at Deerfield Park and make some brush piles! When we first started clearing fairways, we dragged cuttings out of the way. Now we know the Parks would rather use their chipper and chop up all the unwanted. So, long story short, see you tomorrow at Deerfield Park starting at 6! Thanks to anyone who can make it!

Fundraiser Tourney Wrap-Up
Big Thanks to everyone who donated prizes to the tourney and everyone who played as well! Special thanks goes out to Mark's Carpet Cleaning for donating a pop-up practice basket, we used it as the main prize for a raffle which brought in $215 alone. Enough prize discs were donated so that all players got at least one disc (and a free lunch). The grand total for money raised is $879 going to the new 18 holes at Deerfield!!!!! That's close to three baskets!!!! Keep 'em flyin' and thanks again -- MPDG

Subject: Forestry mower demo
On Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 8:30 to 3pm (approximately) local Isabella County company, Bandit Industries will be out at Deerfield Nature Park to demo a forestry mower. This is a $250,000 mower that will clear out some of the autumn olive (an invasive species-----) in the park, and as a bonus this will assist with the clearing required for an additional 18 holes being added to the already existing disc course that is in the park.
We (Isabella County Parks) have been working with the Mount Pleasant Disc Golf Club in building this course. They have been the creators, and instrumental in making this project happen, and now with the help of Bandit Industry we can work together to provide a day to observe what this Bandit mower can do, while benefitting the clearing of the course and this invasive species that needs to be cleared out at the park.
I hope you can send someone or some people out to observe and report on this if possible. I can be reached on my cell or at my office.

This Saturday at Noon, we will be playing a round for tags instead of our usual doubles. We hope to have prizes and CTP's. We'll play Shlongs (Shorts and Longs) and for $10, we'll give you your 2013 Tag according to your place at the finish. So, if you win the round, you get #1! Come on out, it should be fun.
To add to this: You don't need to be an existing Bag Tag holder to play. This is open to everyone. Those wanting a 2013 Bag Tag can pay $10 following the round and get their tag. See you tomorrow at Noon!

More Work at Deefield this Sunday at Noon!
We were very successful last Sunday as we cleared fairways for holes 2-4. Since then, 5 has been done and 6 is about half done. Come on out this Sunday and help us keep this momentum going! The new course is really taking shape. We plan to meet Sunday at Noon at the normal parking lot and start work in the area just past original 10's short tee pad. Hope to see you there!

We will be clearing fairways for the next 18 holes at Deerfield today at 1pm. If you can make it, please park in the sledding hill parking lot. The area being worked on is behind 2's tee. If you have a hand saw and/or loppers, feel free to bring them. If we need, we can also borrow tools from the Parks so don't worry if you don't have tools - we can always use extra hands. Hope to see you today at 1pm!

Update on Course Expansion
Nacho and I met with Sue Ann and Mike on 9/5 at “The Shop” at Deerfield Park There were only a couple of concerns that they had about the 18-hole expansion to the Disc Golf Course: 1. Proximity to homes – The original layout map made it seem that the course crossed a neighbor’s property line, but once we showed them the new layout, it was clear that we had made sure to not impose on any other properties. 2. Nacho and I met with Sue Ann and Mike on 9/5 at “The Shop” at Deerfield Park There were only a couple of concerns that they had about the 18-hole expansion to the Disc Golf Course:
1. Proximity to homes – The original layout map made it seem that the course crossed a neighbor’s property line, but once we showed them the new layout, it was clear that we had made sure to not impose on any other properties.
2. Interpretive Path – Originally, we did have a couple of new holes that threw across the Interpretive Path but had since adjusted these holes, so that concern was taken care of.
Mike had heard from Bandit and there is a chance that they will bring a “forestry mower” to Deerfield to demo it while helping us to clear some fairways, especially behind Fussman where all the Russian Olive lives.
In the meantime, Nacho and I will be more clearly defining fairways, tee and basket placements so if/when the equipment arrives, they can “go to town”. You will be seeing lots of orange flags out there, so please don’t mess with them.
When it’s time for hands-on clearing, you will be hearing from us!”

To all my Isabella County resident friends: Don't forget to vote YES on the Isabella Parks 0.35 millage proposal on August 7th! Don't worry, I'll remind you again as the date draws nearer. Worker-Bee at Deerfield
Nacho and I could use your help in making sure Deerfield is ready for the big weekend next week. Let's try to get together tomorrow (Sunday 6/24) around 2pm to spruce up the course. Bring a rake and/or a broom so we can clean up some fairways and make sure all the pads are dirt free. We may do some minimal weed removal too so if you have a blade-on-a-stick, bring it. Hope to see you tomorrow afternoon and I'm sure there will be a bag-tag round to follow. Thanks everyone!

We're now looking at around $1960 for all the pads, so please keep looking for sponsors/donations. If anyone wants to write a check, make them out to Isabella County Parks and get them to Craig, Jordan or Nacho and we'll get them to the parks dept. Jordan and I hope to be at Deerfield at 8:30 Monday morning to see this project get under way. We should have a better idea of a work schedule after Monday so if you're looking to help, let us know and I'm sure we can put you to work! Thanks!
Craig Clingan July 29, 2010 at 7:21am
Jordan and I hope to speak to the County Parks real soon to get work started on the cement tee pads at Deerfield. Right now, we're being told that the cost is $3000 so we are really in need of your help in finding sponsors. At that cost, each hole (both pads) will cost 3000/18 = $167. I have created an online form where you can submit your sponsorships as you get them. Check it out at http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dHQwTFRYbTJSWmIwQ1YzLTh2eVFuU0E6MQ
Thanks as always for your support of our favorite course!

Deerfield Cleanup Tommorrow
I am planning on heading out tomorrow morning at some point (depending on weather) to blade on a stick it and whatever other cleanup I can find. All I wanna know is...whos coming with me...whos coming with me man... (sorry, got sidetracked on a little half baked). So yeah, let me (Jordan) know if you are interested.
Craig Clingan June 22, 2010 at 10:40pm
Jeff and I worked on hole 3 and a little of hole 2 tonight swinging the "blades on a stick". It would be a mistake to expect the parks to mow prior to the tourney. It's up to us to make the park look the way it deserves. Please make an effort to help out. If you need an implement of destruction, feel free to stop by the park shop (drive just east of Deerfield entrance) and ask for a blade on a stick. If you feel like I do and see Deerfield as one of the best courses in Michigan then please help us in making it look that way for the 100 golfers coming in over the 3rd and 4th. Thanks!!

Mowing at Deerfield
I just heard from Sue Ann Kopmeyer, Isabella County Parks and Rec Director that they are mowing today and will continue next week on the course. She is also working towards a discounted rate for the cement so stay tuned on that one. She might even find a hole sponsor!
Don't forget to get out there and find us some CTP sponsors for the tourney. Thanks!

CONCRETE AT DEERFIELD!!!
We are looking to get tee pads poured at Deerfield before the tournament in July. We need two things to get the ball rolling; some donations of cash to pay for all the supplies and volunteers to help out on the days we put the pads in. If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring a hole or even just putting a few bucks in get in touch with me (NACHO) and we will post work days as soon as we know the schedule. Thanks

Cement for Odyssey Course
I have heard from Jon Andrews that they have 9 baskets for the Odyssey School course but still need the cement to install them permanently. If anyone would like to help donate to the cause let him or me know. Does anyone know how much cement it takes to secure a basket? I'm guessing one bag per hole but I may be wrong. Anywho, it's for a great cause, so help out where you can. Thanks!

We have decided to use the Saturday Doubles ace pool to help pay for the upcoming Ice Bowl merchandise. Thanks for your help and I hope we can build upon this every year to help our neighbors have a good meal.

1st Ace Race
Hey everybody. Jordan, Nacho, Jimmy and I all went to this Ace Race last year and it was a blast (and that was in the rain). Tom throws a mean "tourney" at his place, complete with a rock and roll golf cart, and strategically placed coolers with refreshements. Kraig also cooks up some mean brauts there so you should go. Wednesday at Deerfield
Keith is planning on getting some work done Wednesday morning and Craig hopes to head out there around 5:30pm so if either of those times work for you, let them know to expect you. It's getting to the point where we really just need to clear all our cuttings from the fairways and maybe work on the rough here and there. Tee pads also need to be constructed but we're not sure what that entails. Holes 4 and 7 have pretty sweet pads now so you really need to get out there and check out the progress.

Climbing Wall Update
The turnout wasn't what we hoped for, but it was enough to raise about $120 towards the cause. Thanks to Jordan and Danielle for arranging this and I think I heard Jordan say something about doing it again in June, so that will be another chance for you to help out. Nacho, Josh and I all went to Belay School and spent most of the night helping people up and down the walls. The zip line was a big success with the kids too. Colton came a little later and helped take care of stuff during clean-up. Thanks to those who are putting forth some effort into making Deerfield Park a reality.

Well for doubles today, Keith, Nacho and I had a nice round of Bag Tag Cali-Singles. Keith and Nacho each shot minus 8 and I had fun watching my putter waiver in the wind. Keith pulled out the win on hole 2 placing his second drive right under the basket. Nacho was unable to can his long putt, so we both paid Keith and all kinds of bag tag swapping took place. Afterward, Ben met us out at Deerfield and the 4 of us pretty much finished holes 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. I believe we're down to the last 4 baskets being sponsored too, so things are coming along.

Deerfield today, part 2
Hey Keith and everyone,
I spoke to Jordan yesterday about this and the Parks are being pretty fussy about when we can do anything out there. Sounds like it will be limited to times when they can have someone out there with us to hold our hands. BTW, I have assorted implements of destruction in the back of my car too! ;-) Jordan may get something together on Sunday. We'll have to wait and see...

Since the plans have been OK'd by the County, the next step is to find friends and businesses that are willing to help pay for baskets, lumber, cement, etc. Jordan has created a Donor Letter and Pledge Sheet and you can access it at : http://deerfielddiscgolf.weebly.com/uploads/1/7/6/3/1763507/donor_lettet_and_pledge_workable.pdf If you have questions regarding the form, there is more information at Jordan's site for the course at http://deerfielddiscgolf.weebly.com/donor-page.html . As you find donors, keep Jordan informed of your progress. Let's start shaking the bushes! How sweet would it be to hold the J-Bird Open out there on the 4th of July!!

Here's a message from TJ. I will also post this under the "Talk" tab so people can respond.
"now that we have some club shirts (thanks again josh), would anyone else be interested in buying some bag tags and/or having a bag tag challenge where we order tags 1-25 or such, and as you play, winner takes the highest number. LMK what you think.

News from Jordan
"Well the meeting last night would have been good but no one came to support and the board decided there wasn't enough interest. Just kidding, its a go! I will have donation forms by the end of the week. We have to get all the money raised before work begins so keep thinking about businesses or people who may want to donate. Thanks to everyone who has helped with this project so far. Now the real work and fun begins." Jordan B.

The Final Step for Deerfield!
Jordan and the Isabella Parks Board will be taking the Deerfield Park Disc Golf Course proposal to the full County Commission tomorrow night (Tuesday, 7:00pm). It's in room 225 at the county building. I'm sure a showing of support would be nice. Once the final "OK' is given, the next task will be to get donations for baskets. Jordan is drafting up a formal tax-exempt donation form this week, so be looking for that and be thinking of businesses that might be interested in donating. Hope to see you tomorrow night at 7!

The weekend started out with a round of draw doubles Saturday (2/21) at noon. Of course, this was right in the middle of our latest winter storm. The course went from grassy knolls with clear t-pads to drifting snow and ice pellets blasting against your face. We had 10 golfers including 3 from the Big Rapids/Morley area so it was nice having some visitors to play with/against. All in all, a great day for disc golf! Sunday, Leonard Johnson ran the 6th leg of the MIDGC tournament. Usually, college students from around the state come to play in Match and Stroke Play hoping to keep their university on top of the scoring brackets. With the nasty weather, the only schools represented were CMU and FSU, with 3 golfers from each. CMU took the tourney and posed for a picture with the cool trophy. FIRE UP CHIPS!
The next leg of this tourney is at Cass Benton on March 21st. You should try to make it.

Deerfield Park Visit
Today, Jordan, Josh, Nacho, Nick and I went out to the park and actually threw most of the holes. There's still some uncertainty about the layout of 1,2 & 3 but the rest of the course is really shaping up nicely. My back was yelling at me from yesterday's escapades, so I just walked the course with my trusty Discraft 175 and threw it once in a while. The bomb down the sledding hill was a definite highlight. There's still a need to pack down a walking path if we want to get the parks board out there before the snow is gone. I'm sure we'll hear more from Jordan as this project moves forward.

Saturday Doubles 2/7/09
What a great turnout today! 15 people, easily surpassing our past record of 6. It was warm but man was it windy! The scores ranged from a 50 to a 58. Following the round, Keith and I went out to Deerfield Park and walked the newly proposed 18-hole championship layout. We're both itching to play it! Stay tuned for more news...
