A few spots open for Kit Carson Park Grand Opening

A few spots have opened up in this Saturday's Kit Carson Park Grand Opening Tournament. If you are interested in playing, contact TD Ryan Meyer at 760-807-1657 or email at [email redacted].

I saw the player's pack items and 1st place trophies last night, and they are great! Also, keep in mind that the Aces will be raffling off a DGA Mach III Portable Pole Hole at the awards ceremony following the tournament, so that's another great reason to come out.

Please don't let this happen at Montiel or Sunset!

News story posted on PDGA.com about a course getting pulled. The reason? Players modifying the layout, causing discs to fly into neighborhood backyards, then climbing fences to retreive their discs.

Course closed on Saturday for Ice Bowl

Montiel DGC will be closed for casual play on Saturday, Feb 13 from 7am to 4:30pm to accomodate the 3rd Annual San Marcos Ice Bowl. Since the Ice Bowl will have a field of 54 players (6 per hole) and some players will be using mulligans, there won't be room on the course for non-tournament playing groups.

There are still a few spots left for the Ice Bowl. E-mail [email redacted] if you are interested.

North vs. South Team Tourney

Here's some more info:

We'll be playing down South at Morley Field and Sun Valley on Saturday and at Montiel and Emerald Isle on Sunday.

We'll be playing a match-play format. Half doubles and half singles.

On Saturday morning, I want us to caravan down to Morley from Montiel. Ideally, we should leave before 7 o'clock.

Thanks again,

AJ. Risley

Change to tee #9

Over the next several weeks I'll be trying out a new twist to the tee for hole #9: There will be a mandatory added, so that tee shots must go to the left of the wooden power pole that is 20-30 feet in front of the concrete tee pad. Missing the manadtory will result in a re-throw with a one stroke penalty. Miss the mando and you're teeing off throwing three. Why? Because the City has been receiving complaints from the homeowner at the corner of montiel Rd. and St. Paul St. Too many discs ... more

CSUSM Disc Golf Course in the N.C. Times

Great story about the CSUSM Disc Golf Course on the front page of today's North County Times:

http://nctimes.com/news/local/san-marcos/article_858d376d-3fa1-5b61-a0a6-1510c4644b57.html

It's at the top of the front page, two pictures (taken at Montiel Park), big headline and it is the feature story on their web page. The quotes about disc golf are fantastic, and not a single one from me!!

Marshall Street's Anti-Litter Crusade

What follows is a direct quote from this month's Marshall Street Newsletter (with which I completely agree): Right in the PDGA Rules it says straight up that butts are litter. We should add that bottle caps are litter, too. At most courses you can’t even begin to pick up these small symbols of indifference, because there can be hundreds on a single tee, and there isn’t enough time in the day. The fact that litter’s main function is to attract more litter can make the job of an anti-litt ... more
