It's been a fun time.

Hilltop Disc Golf has provided many great times and wonderful memories in the 9 short years it has been in operation. There were many new friendships made from all over the world, pro and amateurs alike.
If you came to the King of the Hill tournament you became part of our family and will always be considered as such.
I want to thank everyone for all the help and support that has been provided.
However, it is with a bit of a sad heart I must say it is time to end Disc Golf here at Hilltop Sk ... more

Tuesday Sanctioned Leagues

Tomorrow will be week 1 of our Singles Sanctioned League . Tee off is at 6:15 and entry is 10.00 which includes greens fee 1 dollar ace fund and 5 dollar to pay out . I will use the same system Brian uses to determine division 700/810 intermediate , 810/910 Adv , 910^ Open . We will play the new Blue 18 so we can propagate a SSA for it and its a new course to play and every one like playing new courses . Please try to have money in by 6 . Thanks and see ya on the hill

18 Hole Hybrid layout

The Yellow course is in and the blue baskets are out on the big course on the following holes . Hole 2 red position par 4 , 3 , 4 5 , 6 in the short position , tee for 7 is on the knoll the 10 blues basket sit on throwing to 10 red position , hole 16 and basket is around 325 ft on the edge of the woods ( visible from tee) hole 17 and hole 18 . Tees are marked with paint on the few snow tees 2,6,7. This is the layout for Tuesday dubs until the rest of the course become playable.

The Yellow 9 is in and playable . The woods are almost completely snow free and hole 1 and 3 have snow tee’s marked with paint .

Basket changes

Hi . We have done some changes to the basket locations on Hole 4 and 11 and would like to hear your feedback on the changes . We will make the the KotH layout decision by Sunday so please let us know . Hole 4 was moved to the right of the guardian pine to try to make it challenging . Is it ok or is the original better or is there a better location ? Hole 11 Red was moved 40 ft right into a small pocket . Hilltop is open for play

Hilltop has 2 9 hole courses open for play starting this weekend . There is the normal short 9 yellow and the blue course with a improvised hole 6 , instead of exiting hole 5 on the left you exit on the right , hole 10s fairway) and walk up the mound to the left . The basket is by where 10s basket sits. So the blue you play hole 1,2,3,4,5,16,17,18 on the regular 18 . The tees are painted in right now . Have fun

If there’s an uneven number of players registered, I may join in, or there might be a lone wolf (Cali). Decisions will be made at the time of event.

Setup:
A putting lane consists of two opposing baskets 30′ apart. **Note that it’s inside the “circle” – jump putts are not allowed**

Two teams per lane (4 players), one player on each basket (two players on each side).
First to throw will be decided on by disc flip, and will remain constant for the entire match.

Scoring:
Two putters are thrown.
2 in = 3
1 in = 1

First to 11 wins, must win by 2.

If a team wins on a round, both players on the throwing side must complete the round, (finish the side).

Odd Team Bye:
If there is an uneven number of teams, one team will get a bye. With the exception of the first round, bye teams are automatically chosen based on being in the losing half of the bracket (only teams with losing records will be chosen).

The bye team will get a freebie win. It’s not completely free, as the bye win will not count as much as an earned win in the tiebreaker difficulty score.

Turns:
Each turn consists of teams alternating throws from one basket to the other, where their partners will be.

Alternate Throws: Team 1 throws, then Team 2 throws. Repeat.

Then the Team members from the other side throw.

Score Reporting:


Rounds:
There will be 6 rounds to determine the top 2 teams.

Teams will be paired up based on the night’s performance, as the scoring system we use calculates based on wins, losses and difficulty of opponents.

If two teams are tied in record AND tiebreak score (as determined by the difficulty of opponents faced), there will be a last chance qualifier tie breaker.

Last Chance Qualifier Round:
Any teams tied for second will playoff in a “down and back” round.

Each team gets their own lane, so one lane per team. each player from the team will line up on the SAME side of the basket. They putt, their teammate putts, they putt, their teammate putts. Scoring is the same as a round (3pts for 2, 1pt for 1). Then they both shoot back, for a maximum of 12 points.

The team with the most points moves on to the Championship Round. If teams are tied after coming back, go down and back until the tie is broken.

Championship Round:
The top two teams will face off in center court, using the same rules in the round – except the game ends at 21 instead of 11.

There will be two sessions of 16 weeks each. (October 3rd. - January 16th.) (February 6th. - May 22nd.) There will be a final championship event/party on May 25nd. In order to compete in May 25th. event you must have competed in at least 75% of the 32 weekly events.

We will be using a Swiss style bracket system, which allows us to do a few things:

There is no elimination – even the worst teams play all night
It matches teams closer and closer to skill level all night – most teams get at least one win
It only takes 4-6 rounds to determine who’s the best team by strength of schedule
It works byes into the system, and only gives byes to losers (with the exception of the first round)

The cost each week will be $12 ($5 fee - $5 payout - $2 final event)

There will be other prizes each week as well.

Front 9 Remodel

The 4 holes we changed are nearly complete and will be open for play this Sunday at noon . These are the changes we made - Hole 3 is brand new , its a short cross hill shot past guardian trees of roughly 225 ft ( I will measure tonight ) to a hillside pin , Hole 4 is shorter with a challenging elevated tee pad looking at the basket guarded by the twins ( epic teebox view) . Hole 6 is new with a elevated teepad and a huge alder patch bunker and over a hundred ft added to the hole ( This is a seri ... more

These are the changes we made - Hole 3 is brand new , its a short cross hill shot past guardian trees of roughly 225 ft ( I will measure tonight ) to a hillside pin , Hole 4 is shorter with a challenging elevated tee pad looking at the basket guarded by the twins ( epic teebox view) . Hole 6 is new with a elevated teepad and a huge alder patch bunker and over a hundred ft added to the hole ( This is a serious par 4 hole ) this also has a new pin position to the left of the old one . Hole 8 is a beast off the teebox that will now sit back in the woods adding 70 + ft with trees , lift shack , wires and a small mound to beat within 100 ft of the tee then a approach to the pin in a new position . Hole 12 get a new green and pin this yr to the left of the old position that should make for a more challenging hole . 1> You wanted a world class course here in Alaska.
1. We built it six years ago and continue to make it better and more challenging. It is rated #1 in Alaska and #46 in the nation by Discgolfscene.com.
2> You wanted higher sanction events in Alaska.
2. Hilltop provided the first B tier event and the first A tier event in Alaska and someday I will bring a national or world event here.
3> You wanted more money for pro pay outs.
3. Last year I guaranteed a minimum pro pay out of $5000 (the payout was higher than that) and this years event is a minimum of $10,000 I expect it to be even more.
4> You wanted better food available.
4. Hilltop has provided you some of the best food anywhere (seafood fettuccini primavera, Brisket and ribs second to none).
5> You wanted games and more prizes.
5. We provided them, including adding cash from my pocket. A CTP that nowhere else in the world provides; shooting atop a 60 meter ski jump to the bottom of the landing.
6> You wanted to be able to stay onsite during the event.
6. I let you setup tents in my backyard as my guest and even have a shower you can use.
7> You wanted better player packs.
7. You got them: pro (yes, I know pros don't expect a player's pack) and am both.
Whenever the disc golf players have asked, Hilltop has always tried to accommodate.

Now it is my turn to ask something of the disc golf players that I need:
RESPECT!!!
Respect, for the course. Respect, for the people that volunteer their time doing the hard work each year maintaining and improving the course so as to provide you a great course, year after year. Respect, for the volunteers that help run the King of the Hill tournament each year. Respect, for the Hilltop staff that helps give you great food every year. Respect, for the PDGA rules that govern these events. Respect, for the other players.
RESPECT FOR THE RULES I SET FORTH FOR THE COURSE AND THE KING OF THE HILL TOURAMENT.

There is a little over 19 days left to register for this yrs King of the Hill. Registration closes on 11:59 on June 1st and there will be NO registration accepted after June 1st . Smoking Areas

Hilltop update

We are in the process of installing the Red course ( big 18 ) . We will be setting the teepads on Sunday and basket later this week . I am also starting on the changes to the holes on the Red course . The course will play the same as always and as i finish a new hole we will adjust the course .

To celebrate the 2016 Hilltop Disc Golf Season we are holding a Soggy Dollar Ace Race this Friday at 7 . Same rules as a Dirty Dollar . 18 dollar mandatory buy in with optional quarter CTP . I will add a 100.00 bounty on a randomly drawn hole number , on that hole if you ace you will win the money that has rolled over to that hole plus the extra 100.00 . Course changes

The new Hole 5 is in and playable . It's 287 in length and elevates 10 to 15 ft . The hole is in the woods between 4 and the old 5 . The moving of 5 changes the OB on Hole 10 . The OB ends 2 lift towers from 10's basket with a line from the tower to a flag at the center of the edge of the woods ( I will paint a line Saturday ) so any disc past the 5th lift tower ( including the short one next to the tee ) and left of the angled ob line is now safe . I hope you enjoy the first of several changes we are working on .

I am going to be at Hilltop the next few days working on the course . Hole 5 is close to playable on Sunday if I can get some help building piles for the tractor to move out . Hilltop and I are working hard to improve the course with new tee positions on pins but we need help to get it done before fall and season finale tourney . Im excited by the new w ... more

Hi All. We are doing 3 big projects up at Hilltop and are looking for help. Due to schedule conflict with sanctioned tournament, I have made a change of date for the final Saturday sanctioned league. The final league date will be Sunday 7/12/15. We have lots of light duty work for people to do ( marking OB , new tee sign assembly , marking 100' lines on 10 , measuring the new length on 1,7 , marking 10 meter line on the greens . Registration deadline

Registration deadline for the 5th Annual King of the Hill is approaching quickly . Registration closes on June 30th and no entries will be accepted after that date . Don't miss out on a great event . Since the sanctioned Saturday league ended last week ( Thanks Brian and Jeremy for running it) we kinda have a lapse in Saturday leagues and I wanted to gauge peoples interest in a 5 dollar random draw dubs at Kincaid this Saturday. I know we have a agreement not to hold organised events at Kincaid til May but the snow is all gone on the trails and I can't see the Nordics having a issue with pick up rounds. End of the Season

We have pulled the 18 Hole Red course today . The Yellow Short 9 is still in and playing great , we will keep it open as long as possible so come show this great little course some love before the season ends. League Extended

I have extended the Tuesday League through September . Due to darkness I'm asking players to bring a couple of the blacklights given at States. I have 2 for hole 8 and 9 but I think lights on hole 4 and 7 are also needed . I encourage every group have some music going during dusk rounds so we are'nt surprising any furry neighbors . This seemed like a good date due to no tournaments that weekend within 200 miles and being Airshow weekend I figured we would have a good crowd in town that weekend . Please Review the 2 corses at Hilltop . We are trying to evolve the courses into the best and we need your imput . We are working on Tee signs ( snowboards/ ski's) and signage but we want to know how we can improve Black Bear ( big 18 ) and Bear Cub ( tech 9) . Pars on the new 9 ( Bear Cub)

You can now post your scores and aces on dgscene using the 9 am or pro 9 scores .The pro par is used as a rating par for the pdga .I was advised by Brian Schweberger that par 19 is the par the pdga ratings director would advise we use , so we used his advice .Every hole other than 3 is a 2 .hole 3 remains a par 3 .I hope this helps.

Course Work

I want to thank Rick Cramer, John Thein , Terri Mills and Waylon Cotton for helping yesterday to clean and cut hole 13/14 at Kincaid yesterday . I will know by the end of today if I will have time to play States this yr due to a large amount of work still needing done at Hilltop in preparation of opening the new 9 and getting The 18 ready for KotH . Used Discs Donation Box for Oversea Soldiers.

It was suggested at a prior meeting and I figured we should step up . I will set up a box at Hilltop to collect lightly used discs you dont throw or need so we can give them to Operation Disc Golf to be sent to our troops overseas . 1st Doubles Troubles is in the books

Thanks to everyone that came out and made this a great fun event . Congrats to Joe.S and Thaddeous.G for taking the Open Div and Jake.H and Rod Stepp on winning the AM Div . Hilltop would like to thank all those that have come up to help on the Hill . I will be up there all week and we have a work party scheduled for 6 pm on Tuesday . Hope to see you all there.

Almost Ready

Rick will mow more of the Hill today and I will weedwack around the baskets and fairways Rick cant get down . The course is looking and playing great . We hope to see alot of teams this weekend at Hilltops 1st tourney of the yr Doubles Troubles . Ladies it's not too late to rally a couple teams to claim the Ladies Double Division Championship. Big News!!

Hilltop DGC has been encouraged to enter a Bid for the 2016 Pro Worlds . We will start design and initial installation of a 18 Hole Championship level wooded course to compliment the Green Beast . Also to get our feet wet we will be taking next yrs Alaska State Championship to a A Tier Event on 3 courses . This is a exciting time for Alaska Disc Golf

Need help finishing the new 9

I will be on the Hill every afternoon this week finishing the last 2 holes and cleaning up the others and building the teepads . We could use some help to get it done . I hope to get it done so i can adress a couple issues on the big course for doubles troubles . You can get ahold of me at 2293740 . Thanks

Thursday work party

There will be a few of us up the hill in the afternoon . If you cant make til later I will stay and work as long as your willing to help . I will not ask you to do any job I myself wouldnt or havent done and you cant beat the view you have while working . Many hands makes light work . Thanks to all that come

Reward Party for Course Work

We need help and we want to reward your hard work and giving back to Disc Golf . Anyone who has worked or is willing to work a combined total of 20 hrs between now and June 6th Rick will throw a BBQ with Beer and Golf and will be given 1st pick of our new discs coming in . We will do it the Friday prior to Double Troubles . Also anyone who does 40 hrs will get a season pass for 20 bucks . You will get great plastic , the appreciation of Hilltop and the great feeling of satisfaction that comes fr ... more

Final 2 week push on courses . Any help is appreciated

With less than 2 weeks til our first event of the yr the push to get both courses tournament ready is on . There are 3 hole's left to do and we could use all the help we can get . We will have the following plastic available for sale , they all have Hilltops new logo and come in various weights colors .
