Agreed you proved it when you threw your driver without turning your light on haha

Mark Kewley    February 19, 2013 at 1:59pm

Rick Petrie    February 17, 2013 at 11:01pm

I want to send a special Thank You to everyone who attended today's DFOK Winter Bag Tag & Points league event. We did ourselves a big favor for being such a well organized & well behaved club/league today. Making good impressions with other members of our community will always help further our sport in the area... A little positive Disc Golf PR will go a long way. For those of you who were not in attendance, multiple people from the family who owns The Pathfinder outdoor store ... more

Reminder: Group design round this afternoon at Fairmont Park. Starting at 1:30pm then come & go as you wish.

Mark Kewley    February 9, 2013 at 7:20pm

We should all thank Rick for providing the signs that are being used for the Fairmont design work. I'm sure he spent quite a bit of time + his own money for materials.

Rick Petrie    February 9, 2013 at 4:22pm

By the way... I spoke to Riley Co. again this week. They are unsure if they want the fairway sponsorship dollars go through their accounts, or have us handle those dollars somehow. There are more pros than cons in having the RL Co. accountants receive the funds. The two biggest benefits are: 1. As a government agency, they would not have to pay sales taxes on the baskets & misc. equipment. 2. Asking individuals & businesses to donate to our club is a tougher sell than to donate to the ... more

Re: Moon Lake DGC

by Darren B » Mon Feb 04, 2013 7:10 pm

Is there anyone who would like to get an afternoon round in with me at Moon Lake this week? I am in town for classes Tuesday and Wednesday and it looks like i will be free to play anound 4. I tried to follow your layout tonight but it got dark before i figured it out. my # is 620-680-0575 if anybody has time Thanks

Mark Kewley    February 5, 2013 at 10:21pm

The highlight of the backward glow round at Fairmont tonight was Adam Johnson’s near ACE on the CTP hole. Playing from basket 5 to basket 4, he nailed the facemask and the disc dropped and sat under the basket.
Good Stuff!

Adam Johnson   February 5, 2013 at 11:22pm

thanks! it was definetly some beginners luck on newish course.

Josh Carroll   February 5, 2013 at 11:27pm

1's basket to 9's basket must have been nuts! :P

Jon Tveite   February 6, 2013 at 1:26pm

We didn't use baskets #3 or #9, but there were still some long and interesting holes, e.g. #2 to #1 (watch out, people on #7 and #8!), and #4 to #2. #7 to #6 was tricky because of the big cedar bush (you could only see the light from certain angles).

Rick Petrie    February 3, 2013 at 7:24pm

Light Bulb Moment! As many of you know, our Sunday league ended today with a couple hours of daylight remaining. So I thought I would run over to Fairmont Park and see if anything is going on in the expansion area. Adam was there working on his concept layout. Cool! This excited me because I knew he would be working on a "reverse" layout. In other words, entering and exiting the expansion area in the opposite locations we've used thus far. I will let Adam debut his "r ... more

New twist on Glow League this Tuesday.

You might find out about it at Bag Tag / Points League today?

Mark Kewley   February 3, 2013 at 8:48pm

As announced at Warner today, Tuesday night Glow League will be a little different this week. We will be playing Fairmont backwards basket to basket. Looks like it might not be real cold either.

Mark Kewley    January 30, 2013 at 11:26pm

Fairmont Design When I play the design layouts, here are a few things I’m looking at: Flow. Do you have to backtrack or cross other fairways? Safety. Are players or others in the line of fire, Blind corners, etc. Difficulty. With one tee, the holes need to be hard enough to challenge those of us that play all the time but not so evil they totally crush the souls of beginners. Entertainment. I want to have fun playing these holes. Other than that I would like to s ... more

I think what Rick said about multiple pin placements is really key to everyone being happy with the back 9. We can make one placement very challenging and another placement that isn't as challenging but still fun to shoot at our for more advanced players a good ace run. We can balance the course with different placements...heck even different par scores if we want a couple par 4's.

Kevin Clouse   January 31, 2013 at 4:26pm

Dropping a few different pin placements in the front 9 would be something to look into as well. I think some tweaking of the tee pad placements on the front nine should be looked into as well.

Adam Johnson   January 31, 2013 at 11:09pm

while i like the list for the final design i would like these preliminary to be creative and unique. the final choice will likely be combination of the layouts.

Damen W    January 29, 2013 at 5:37pm

Miltonvale Tootletoss will now be a KDGA tour event...which unfortunately means it is no longer free...but will also have larger payouts and more divisions. In order to have more time to complete the tournament and less chaos in the park it has been moved to sat. May 25th. Mark your calendars and hope to see you there!! It will also now be two rounds of 18 holes.

Jon Tveite   January 29, 2013 at 6:22pm

Wow, that's a big deal. Congrats!

Nice. I'll try to make it!! That date will be probably a week before the LAO.

Mark Kewley   January 29, 2013 at 10:04pm

Good, more points for me :)

Mark Kewley    January 28, 2013 at 8:54pm

I had to go back outside and putt some more. It is still 64 degrees on my thermometer!

Rick Petrie    January 28, 2013 at 6:12pm

Jon, Kevin & Josh bring up interesting points. Some of which were discussed at great length at last Monday's design meeting (at the Manhattan Public Library). A sense of agreement was established at that meeting.

Knowing how many options we (our group of dedicated designers, fund raisers, lobbyists, etc.) want to explore, I spoke to my contact with Riley County. I have good news...

I will post that news after I have dinner tonight and take care of a few other things.

Until later,

Jon Tveite    January 28, 2013 at 3:52pm

I agree, Kevin, that time is short and we should try to schedule as many layout trials as possible. Realistically, however, not everyone's going to be able to make every trial -- especially if we have a lot of them -- so I think the most important thing is to make sure people are posting good maps of their proposals so that others can get a sense of them even if they have to miss a trial. Layouts without maps will probably not receive serious consideration when it comes down to ma ... more

Kevin Clouse    January 28, 2013 at 1:42pm

I have an idea! How about we set up another Fairmount design this Saturday or Sunday? I know we have league scheduled for this Sunday but I have been thinking about how much time we have before the disc golf season starts. VERY LITTLE I don't know what the general consensus on skipping Warner league this Sunday is but we could always play for tags and points at the temporary Fairmount layout. Thoughts? If we didn't want to skip Warner on Sunday we could always attempt to do this ... more

Josh Carroll   January 28, 2013 at 2:46pm

We've got our K-State Doubles league on Saturdays out at Fairmont. If we were to play through the layout, we would probably need baskets for a realistic score. I don't know if everyone would want to haul baskets out there each week. Or we'd just play our 18 on the main side and then whoever wanted to go check out the other holes could do so afterwards.

Jon Tveite   January 28, 2013 at 3:09pm

I think we should try to focus as much attention as we can on coming up with a good layout for Fairmont. We are just trying to maintain a balance between playing and planning. Not everyone is equally interested in being involved with the planning process. We don't want them to lose interest in the league while we are focused on Fairmont.

Rick Petrie    January 27, 2013 at 11:32pm

Thanks to everyone who came out to Fairmont today.

I think we had a great showing and many good ideas were shared.

If you missed it today, there will be more of these "Design Days" in the near future.

Adam Johnson    January 27, 2013 at 9:34pm

Sorry hit post to quickly... anyway I think if a lot of the mess was cleaned up on 1 and 2 then they could be combined for one hole. Then clean the disaster south east of hole 5 and figure out two holes. The only other weakness could be flow as for 3 and 4 and again on 7 and 8 you walk through fairways to get to the tee box (I see that as minor). Can't wait to try the next lay out

Adam Johnson    January 27, 2013 at 9:27pm

As for the design that was used at fairmont today I thought the stengths were hole 2, 7, 3, 4, 6 and 8. I just really enjoyed driving those holes and think we can be creative with having multiple pin placements. The area to south east of hole 5 need to be cleaned up and I would love to see 2 holes in there. I think the waknesses of this lay out is 1 and 2 Could cross into each other.
