Work Day And Course Changes
Thanks To Mook, Laura, Caleb, Nate, and Ted for helping out with the Von Baer Work Day. We were able to get all 18 tee signs cut and cemented in. We will have signs on them this week. We also dug out new tee pads for holes 4a, 6a, 6b, and 7a. The course has a new look and this may be bad news for some but it is definately more challenging. We will have another work day soon. We will post it here when we know for sure when it will be.

Von Baer Work Day Date Changed
We have 4 Eagle Projects at Von Baer. I didn't realize March 31st was LDS conference so we can't have LDS boy scouts out there that day. We have moved the date to April 14th. We will be installing tee signs and improving tee pads. We need all the help we can get! Other projects submitted were to improve the bridge at hole 6, install benches, and flatten out trails on the steep slopes of holes 6, 7, and 9.

Von Baer Project Day
We are going to have a work day at Von Baer on April 14th from 9:00am on. The main goal of the project will be to install tee signs. Randy at Providence is very pleased with the success of the course and says there have been players out there almost everyday even throughout the winter. So, plan on bringing shovel and post hole diggers. It will be alot like basket install day where we need to dig narrow holes and fill them with cement. Hopefully, I can arrange some scout groups to help out. If theres time and enough man power, we want to widen the teepads. Sometime this year we hope to get rubber pads for the tees. In addition, holes 7B and 8A will be moving. One of the biggest complaints the city gets is discs over the road so both those teepads will be moved down the hill.
Along those lines, other complaints that have been received about course is loud swearing and trash. There is a garbage at the trailhead by the parking lot. If you pack it in, please pack it out! I promise its a much easier decision to take a course out than put one in. If you are up by holes 7, 8, and 9 and you have a bad shot, don't punish the neighbors for your mistake by cursing out loud. Lets show the community that the Cache Valley disc golfers are not a bunch of degenerates!
In April, we are also planning another work day to help an Eagle Scout Project build a bridge from hole 6 to 7. It will be constructed with two power poles spanning 60 feet held together with pressure treated 2 x 6's. It will eliminate the need for stairs up the steep hill on the other side of the creek.
I am currently in negotiations with Nibley City about installing a course at a new park they are putting in on 1200W. It will be another 9 holes, but will provide some holes that you don't get to see at Von Baer such as more open holes you can practice long open drives on. There is a walkway and a playground around the park as well so its a little more family and beginner friendly. The park isnt in yet which means that they are allowing me freedom to put trees where I want. I don't want to count my chickens before the hatch but it looks really promising we will have a 2nd course in the valley this year.
I talked with Kevin Kobe up at USU about the baskets up there. The trailer park accross from the old course is being taken out supposedly for a recreation park. The students voted on the recreation park last week so our fate is up to them. Kevin said if the park is approved, the baskets at USU will be going in at that new park just north of the Student Living Center.
I promise this is my last thing. We are holding a tournament at Sherwood Hills Resort up in sardine canyon on July 14th. It is not a PDGA sanctioned event. We will also be doing Huktoberfest on October 12, 13 and 14. It will be a night tournament on October 12 and a two day PDGA event on the 13th and 14th. Brigham City League will be on Wednesdays at 6:30 starting on May 2nd and running through August 29th.
Thanks guys!

Blind Gully Is Open
Blind Gully Disc Golf Course at Von Baer Park in Providence is officially open! The course is very primitive right now. The best thing you can do if you play the course is to walk the same routes as much as possible so that trails are developed and throw dead branches off the beaten path. Please be courteous and do not throw on holes next to the road when there are cars present. I will get course maps up ASAP. The tees are dirt. Cement or Fly Pads will not be installed until the spring. We are planning on having a course cleanup day on September 17th and a course Grand Opening tournament on September 24th.
Thanks to everyone who came out and helped this week. I hope you love your new course!

Course Installation Went Well
We had about 30 people show up to install the Providence course. Thanks to all who showed up! It was a huge success! The sleeves are in. The teepads are leveled. We are waiting for master locks to come in before we can actually get the baskets in. Randy at Providence said he is hurrying to get this done. As soon as I get word from him. I will let you know and we will be playing. Thanks!

Providence Course Installation
We are installing the Providence Course at Von's Park on Tuesday, August 16th, at 6:00pm. We need all the help we can get! Please come and plan on doing some manual labor and getting this course in playing shape. We are planning on installing the pins on Tuesday, leveling out tee pads, and clearing brush.
If you have these items, please bring
Shovel
Pick
Post Hole Digger
Buckets
Wheelbarrow
Rake
Level
Gloves
I will be meeting with Providence on Monday. I thought they mentioned that they would have an auger to drill the holes, but I am not sure.
The plan is to finish the initial stage this week to get the course playable. In September, we will have another work day and post permanent tee signs and clean up the course again. We will do so again in October and November and have it up to snuff before the winter comes. If you have any comments or questions you can shoot me an e-mail or call at four three five seven six zero four two two four. Thanks!

Providence Course Installation
We are planning on having a permanent design laid out by this Saturday morning. I will be there from 8:00am til its done and then Providence City needs to approve the design on Monday. Anyone is welcome to come out on Saturday if they want to help or see a rough draft. We are planning an installation on Tuesday the 16th or Wednesday the 18th. Keep in mind that the baskets will be in wet cement and won't be able to play until the day after the installation. The baskets must be leveled out and anyone playing the course before its ready will mess up the targets. We are looking for help with foilage cleanup. Also, we need to level out tee pad areas. Shovels, picks, rakes, wheelbarrows, levels, crescent wrenches, post hole diggers, are all needed. We are trying to get scout groups to come help and as soon as I know which day they are coming, I will let you know and we can have a course back in Logan.
USU course update. Apparently, USU is keeping the baskets that they originally had so that they can re-install the course in the mobile home park that was just accross the street from the old course. They are taking out the trailer park and installing grass and planting the course there. I don't know what the time frame is for this.
Thanks!

Providence Course Officially Approved And Tournaments A Coming!!!
I met with Providence today about our course at Von Baer Park and it has passed funding, the park lines have been defined for us and the City Council has offiically approved the course. We will be ordering new baskets and should have the design set and have baskets in hand within a couple of weeks. I will keep you informed because we will need some able bodies for the install. Thanks for your patience in all this.
So, once the course is in we will probably be holding a grand opening tournament and invite the city out to learn disc golf and play.
Also, we have the Cache County Fairground reserved for October 14th and 15th for the Huktoberfest. Friday night will be a 27 hole haunted night round and Saturday will be a 36 hole PDGA Sanctioned tournament. You can play either Friday or Saturday or both.

Meeting Went Well
There were about 6 of us who met with Randy Eck this morning. The meeting went well. We still need to get approval from the city council and verify park boundaries on two holes. I will get with Randy by Tuesday about those items and will work on the layout. The layout is turning out to be alot more promising than I originally thought. I will be a way fun course with hugh elevation changes and water hazards. I still think it will only suit 9 holes. I will get you more info next week on it and go from there. Thanks guys!

I would like to start up Brigham City League in April and have it go through September. It will start at 6:00pm until May, then it will start at 6:30 until September, then it will go back to 6:00. I have some great sponsorship in the works that hopefully will come through. Church groups come through on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so I would like to run the league on Thursday nights. The only problem with this is that is when NUDGA runs doubles at Riverside. If they are still running doubles on Thursday nights, then we will fight the crowd and continue on Wednesdays. As soon as I know, you will know.

Von's Park
I met with Park's and Recreation at Providence City this morning. They took great interest in disc golf. They said that purchasing new baskets would not be a problem at all. They are not exactly sure where the boundaries of the park end.
When the snow clears more, I will go out with them and look at the parameters of the park and make certain that we can design a viable 9 hole course. All in all, it was a great meeting and as long as the space is there, they are initially on board.

Still trying
Still want a disc golf course in Cache Valley? We are still working on it...without USU's help. The main area's of interest for disc golf are Von's Park in Providence, King Park in North Logan (Green Canyon), and the new park at 600 South. The area with the most activity is Von's Park. I am meeting with Providence City this month to discuss a deal to buy new baskets for this park. It play against the gully walls of Providence Canyon after it exits the mountains. There is space for a great 9 holes course. I will update you as I get more info and ask for help as we progress.

Very Bad News
Just like that we went from almost installing to starting all over. Kevin Kobe, USU Campus Rec Direction has put the cabosh on our course at Lundstrom stating that the course is "a hinder to other park users". This comes after he specifically asked me to "pursue Lundstrom with the City ASAP" when the Student Living Center was removed. Never did he voice his concern during the hours upon hours during the summer we were meeting with the city, USU, designing, and redesigning the course.
What do we do from here? Well, we push on without USU. We still have baskets from Skyview they are willing to let us use. I believe they have at least 5. We could try to get those in at Lundstrom, or pursue King Park at Green Canyon. Also, we are going to propose 9 holes at Von's Park in Providence and the Nature Park in Nibley City's master plan. Keep your heads up. I am sorry that it went down this way.
You have my blessing to tell Kevin how you feel.

Not a hoax!
Mike, Nate, and I met with Logan Parks director Russ Akina an hour ago and he asked us to find a date we can install the course within the next week or two!!! So, absolutely everything is ready to go on the city's side. The only thing stopping us is getting USU to release the baskets. Logan will not sign a document taking any kind of responsibility for the basket but it seems that USU won't release them to us without a signed document. I will be working on this tomorrow and hopefully have info for you by then. When we get the baskets, there might be some cement needed to be broken and cleaned off of the sleeves. Hopefully we can do that this weekend, I might call for your help with that on Saturday. Then, we are looking at Tuesday the 28th for installation. If you would like to help, you can call, visit, or e-mail Kevin Kobe of USU Campus Recreation to voice your support for releasing the baskets to us ASAP! Please be courteous.

Logan Parks Meeting
Thanks to Nate and Colby for coming to the meeting. I felt it was a good step forward. Russ indicated that the 600 South Park is going to be constructed sooner than later. That is the ultimate place he would like to see the course go permanently. I agreed. As far as Lundstrom is concerned, it looks like we need to clear some concerns about turf wear and tear and basket foundations with the maintenance crew before we can install the course there. We will meet with them next week to clear their concerns. I know we have gone the whole summer without disc golf, but feel that will end very soon. I will keep you posted next week.

The city is still dealing with some concerns about disc golf at Lundstrom Park. I am just about done dancing around with them. Last I talked to them, it was approved and we were just waiting for some crew work at the park to get done. Now, they have more concerns. I am meeting with Parks and Rec Director Russ Akina on Wednesday, August 4th, at 3:00pm at the Recreation Center. I could really use your support as I give him an ultumatum. I am going to shout this out. I NEED ANYONE AND EVERYONE THERE AT THE MEETING ON WEDNESDAY AT 4:00PM AT RUSS AKINA'S OFFICE AT THE RECREATION CENTER ADJACENT TO LOGAN HIGH SCHOOL. Its alot easier for him to say no to me, but much more difficult if I have all of you to back me up. Please come. Even if you don't want to say anything, your presence alone will go a long way!

Russ Akina, Logan Parks and Recreation Director, offered 600 south park which is a future park to disc golf a couple weeks ago. He didn't want to install it until the course was under construction in a year or so. I surveyed the land and found it to be very promising for disc golf. I sent a message to him earlier this week asking for permission to use the park even before it is constructed. Keep your fingers crossed!

I met with Smithfield Rec Director Brett Daniels yesterday. He was interested in putting the course up at Central Park in Smithfield. WAY TOO SMALL! He has no other ideas. I met with Chris Brothersen of the USU ORC today. He has extensive experience in dealing with the Forest Service. He gave me some helpful ideas of how to pitch Green Canyon to the new Special Permits person. We will put in a proposal next week and see if we get laughed at again or not.
Other projects, we are still trying to meet with Providence about Von's Park, North Logan about King's Park, and am not giving up on Mt. Logan, Lundstrom, 600 south park, and another area in Logan.
I still need other ideas if you have them for a course. It doesn't have to be on grass!

USU Course Removed
The USU course has been removed. The baskets have been donated to the Cache Valley Disc Drivers and we are currently meeting with North Logan and Providence city officials as well as the Forest Service to propose and hopefully approve two new courses. One at Von's Park in Providence and the other in the day use area of Green Canyon. We will post further information on Friday.
