For the past few years the people in Wasilla have been really trying to get the city to give us funding for 9 more baskets to no avail. Last year they had a meeting to fund us but none of us even knew about the city meeting and it wasn't passed due to lack of interest and some of the neighbors living behind our course voting against it. This year we have a chance to get 9 more baskets and expand the only course out here to 18 holes.

We in the past 2 years have really cleaned up the course adding benches and trash cans on every other hole along with clearing dead and fallen trees from the fairways along with constant upkeep from many many local players. We are really striving to make this course into a real legit DG course for the community out here and could use ALL of the help we can get.

The city is having a meeting meeting on may 20th at 5pm in fire station number 61 off of Lucille st in Wasilla and our course funding/expansion is on the agenda, I encourage everyone to help us out and lets swarm the meeting with a ton of people who enjoy the sport and can show Wasilla and Alaska that we want more disc golf out here!

Kincaid Update

Hello All, First off, I'd like to thank those of you who have spent some time out there speeding up Mother Nature's process. Off the top of my head those people are: Adam Klein, Jeremy Boyd, Shawn Graham, and Nick Collaer (don't forget about me). The only Am boxes that aren't free of snow are 6 and 14. Kincaid Park

Greetings everyone. Yesterday I realized that on Wednesday I mentioned we should let Mother Nature do her thing until Tuesday, then clean up the tee boxes. Well, my winters consist of DG and Hockey. SO, I'll be out at Kincaid tonight from 6:30 pm through whenever to begin chipping away at the boxes that can be taken care of now. I just hope it warms up like yesterday and the days before. Either way, I will be out there. If you would like to come out and help that would be most appreciated. If not, I would hope there's a group of you heading out there tomorrow. Should you decide to come/go out and help please take a tool of some sort (chipper, metal shovel, etc), water and gloves.

Please remember, if we're gonna be out there on Wednesday ALL the tee boxes will need to be completely free of snow and ice. Thank you.

To those of you who have attended all these Alaska Aces's game nights (and everyone else for that matter): Now that we've secured a playoff spot I decided to call and ask about Playoff ticket prices. Prices go as follows: Balcony seating: -$23.50 per game for Playoff Season Tickets. These seats will belong to you as long as we continue the run. With these tickets we have to give up a credit card and we will be charged until we are eliminated (which won't happen). -$19 per game for ... more

Now that we've secured a playoff spot I decided to call and ask about Playoff ticket prices. Prices go as follows:

Balcony seating:

Please begin to think about this. Also, know that this year each round will consist of a best of 7 series (it used to be 5,7, 7, 7). Should we win the Brabham Cup (the team with the most points gets Home Ice throughout the playoffs) this would mean we will have upto 4 home games per series and a 1st round bye. Tickets are on sale now. To avoid being left out I've gone ahead and secured 1 of the GA PST ($13). Who else is down?

Rod and I are heading down to Phoenix late Friday night (early Saturday morning). I would really like to gather a nice size group for Friday night's Aces game (7:15) against our rivals, the Las Vegas Wranglers. Night Golf

If you saw the kind of light I'm rocking, this message is for you. I now know where to buy those online now. I sent an email to see how much they'd be if I purchased them in bulk and they're $1.50 each for a set of 50 or $1.35 each for 100 or more. The reason these lights are money is because they can be turned on and off after EVERY throw. I realize the fishing lights can too but then you gotta set them up a certain way to have the head of the light exposed. With my lights you just press a button and you're done. These lights come in many different colors, have 3 different settings (slow strobe, fast strobe and steady) and last up to 12 hours. Before I drop some money on these I'd like to have an idea as to how many we should get and not be stuck with years worth of lights. I believe if we went this route we'd all save money in the long run. Brad has been spending his own money on providing us lights and only charging half the cost to the players (therefore eating the difference). This could be the way to go. Please let me know if this is something you'd like to buy into. The sooner the better so we can have them by Wednesday the 31st (assuming we have a league that day).

Westchester Update

I made a couple of calls to Parks and Rec yesterday. I talked to a lady and she took my message. This morning I received a call from P&R Maintenance Dept. I explained the situation of us not rushing them to put the baskets in but rather how we're trying to be proactive and at least get the poles put into the ground before it freezes. He said they're not going to even do that because the ground isn't frozen and they don't want people walking on the new grass (I haven't walked the course yet s ... more

I have ideas but that's it.) However, he told me not to worry because they have options as far as how to deal with the frozen sleeves. 1) They have a hot water power washer that could to the trick. And 2) they have a 2 foot drill that would help extract the ice from the sleeves. This makes me feel better and I hope it does you too. I know our ultimate goal is to have those bad boys in the ground but all we can really do now is hurry up and wait. He didn't give me a time frame as it lies on Mother Natures hands. I'm gonna suggest we keep the course in the "easier" looks for the duration of the winter.

This is where you can have a say in the layout for the next several months. Send me a MESSAGE with what looks you would like to see for the duration of the winter. My vote goes for: A, A, A, B, B, A, A, B, A. It is Westchester so there's not a hard look on the course. Let me know what you think... before the ground freezes, haha!

Saturday League

Has anyone else noticed that Saturday League is not under the list of leagues anymore? I'll create a new one but in the meantime, we'll be at Kincaid tomorrow morning at 11:00. Plan on playing a Pro/Am mix. See you there!

Ace Race 2012

Attention fellow DGers: I’ve been asked by many of you if we’ll be having an Ace Race tourney this year. I don’t see why not. They’re a bunch of fun and we still have time to get the ball rolling but I will need your cooperation to ensure I order the right number of players packs. I’m looking at holding the event on September 22nd at Peter’s Creek DGC. The players pack will include 2 prototype discs, a mini disc, a water bottle and a pair of stunna shades. They’re a bunch of fun and we still have time to get the ball rolling but I will need your cooperation to ensure I order the right number of players packs. I’m looking at holding the event on September 22nd at Peter’s Creek DGC. The players pack will include 2 prototype discs, a mini disc, a water bottle and a pair of stunna shades. That’s a $50 value at a cost of only $25 per person (this could possibly go up by $5 as we get screwed in shipping living here). And yes, it’s all yours to keep.

If you haven’t participated in an Ace Race tournament before this is how it works: each player will throw one of their two discs with the intent to simply RUN IT (lay-ups and putts are NOT welcome)! The player is looking for Aces (hole-in-ones) only. Once all the players have thrown, discs are picked up and scores are tallied (“A” for an Ace, “M” for Metals or a “-“ for nothing at all). The eventual winner will receive a bag loaded with Discraft plastic!

What I need from you at the moment is simply a “yes, I’m interested”. But I need this right away as August is almost over and we’ll need to allow time for shipping. I will add your name to the Ace Race registration if you are a member of the ADGA. If you’re not, I’ll require your $25 entry fee (which is refundable until September 20th at 7:00 pm). I just need to know.

I hope we make this happen! But you gotta let me know! RUN IT!!!

At the Parks and Rec meeting Wednesday night they asked "what other plots of land in town would facilitate the sport of Disc Golf". I mentioned Centennial Park. Although I've never walked the area, I've heard from many of you that Centennial would be an ideal plot of land for DG. Dubs Skill Shot Event?

I've been asked by a few of our awesome ADGA members to run another Skill Shot Tournament. I'm down, are you? This time it will be a random draw doubles event with pretty much the same format and same number of points to be given out per hole (there will be a couple of changes in format and points but nothing drastic). The score between the two will be added up and scored per team (not the best point total of a team). This will take place THIS Sunday at 10:00 am. Plan for two rounds with a b ... more

I've been asked by a few of our awesome ADGA members to run another Skill Shot Tournament. I'm down, are you? This time it will be a random draw doubles event with pretty much the same format and same number of points to be given out per hole (there will be a couple of changes in format and points but nothing drastic). The score between the two will be added up and scored per team (not the best point total of a team). This will take place THIS Sunday at 10:00 am. Plan for two rounds with a break inbetween. Cost will be $20 per person regardless of division player actually plays in (since it's RDD). Included in your $20 entry fee is a 50/50 CTP. Having a 50/50 CTP is a great way to bring in a little bit of cash for the club. Simply put, a 50/50 CTP is: Say 40 people show up (obviously everyone would be in as it's included in their entry fee). Thats' $200. $100 would go to the club, no questions asked and the other $100 would be split up (say into quarters). That means 4 baskets would be worth $25 each. Hit one and you get more than your entry fee back. Hit all 4 and you're buying drinks ;-) Please give me a thumbs up or thumbs down. If you're for it, tell your friends. We had quite a few out last time who came out because of you guys spreading the word. We appreciate that! I hope to get enought interest to move on with this.

Tonights Meeting

Tonights meeting is CANCELLED due to all the work that still needs to be done at Kincaid Park in preperation for States. We still have about 7 baskets that need work (mowing, clean up, tree removal etc). We'll be there from 5:30 pm until 10 pm tonight and Thursday. This isn't a threat but if we don't get enough done by tonight WE WILL BE FORCED TO CANCEL DUBS TOMORROW NIGHT. You all know that I don't like cancelling leagues but we have a huge tournament coming up and still a bunch of tasks t ... more

I would like to thank you for all of your help this year. We got a lot accomplished and I am proud of our efforts. I would like to list off some of the items we can all be proud about. I have decided to pursue helping out disc golf in our community on a individual basis for the future. I will finish out this month as President and complete this year. It was my privilege to serve as president and lead Disc Golf in Alaska. My leadership was called into question at the last meeting and it was suggested to look for other leadership. Well if you are looking for someone to make a stand on a Pro tournament bid, then you are correct. I am not the leader you need. If you want someone to assist/TD in 8 tornament events and dedicate their summer to disc golf, then I am. I am sorry my efforts are not what the ADGA wants. I wish the best for the club in the future.
