Utah is full of players who gave us a very positive response when we were here back in June for the River Park Open so we figured that this was a great opportunity to come back. Friday the DD RV will be set up to take registration for a couple of events we are putting on for you guys.

Saturday Oct 6:

When: Saturday October 6th @ 10 a.m.
What: 2 rounds of singles, All divisions
Where: Creekside parkWho can play: All ages and skill levels

Registration will start on Friday(Oct 5) from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. for this event and will open again from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. The event will be full when there is 80 total players. The two rounds will consist of 20 holes. We will have a short players meeting @ 9:30 and tee of at 10 a.m. There will be an hour for lunch after the last card from the first round comes in.

After the second round we will do a ring of fire for three different prizes followed by a short awards ceremony. There will be 100% payout to all divisions. Open will receive cash and the number of spots paid out will depend on how many people register. If no one hits the ace pot, it will be sacrificed to the dreaded ring of fire for anyone to take.

!!!!!!!!!PUTTING COMPETITION!!!!!!!!!

A putting competition will be held all weekend long! It will start on Friday and we will have the finals on Sunday after round two of the doubles event. The cost is $5 per turn. Each registrant will have 45 seconds to throw 15 putters into a basket. There will be three different stations with 5 putters at each station. Each orange putter(12) is worth 1 point and each pink is worth 3(3) with 21 points being a perfect score. The players with the most points will go to the finals on Sunday.

These two separate events are non-sanctioned. These events are being held for anyone(YOU) that loves the sport and who wants to have a relaxing day or two of friendly competition. However, we will be using the basic rules and etiquette that the PDGA rule book has set forth so that there will fair play among everyone. There will be NO two meter rule. Dynamic Discs is a Disc Golf retail company that has been in existence for 7 years. We want to promote this fast growing sport in a positive and healthy way. Thanks to everyone for coming to the City's Parks Symposium. I think it was definitely a success! We were by far the most numerous group for the entire event (counted about 20 DG supporters in total). I've been told by my sources that city officials were really impressed not only with our crowd but also how positive we were about collaborating with them.

UPDATE,
The way it looks, Jordan River Park will be off limits until next year and then only for about 11 acres. There are additional 15 acres further northwest from Rose Park that the City is potentially buying and our community could be the one to get that piece of land to be turned into a DG course. There is a positive and two negatives that come with that land. If the city is buying it, things for an initial course could happen relatively quickly (not sure what that means). On the other hand right now this land is covered in alfalfa and would need to be developed with trees and bushes, but the parks department is required to create woodland for wildlife and conservation and would be willing to do that, but it would take time for the park to get a DG character. The other negative, it's only 15 acres and for a championship course, more land is beneficial, but additional acres may become available adjacent to it (who knows).

Nonetheless, I think this would be our best chance to get something in the city of Salt Lake.

NEXT STEP, on Oct. 1, the Board in charge of Open Spaces, Parks, and Recreation will have their inaugural meeting and one of the main issues to be discussed will be the sale of this piece of land. If we again show a strong representation and can sway the board that this sale is good for us and the SLC community, we will have taken the next step. Unfortunately, I won't be in town for that, but hope some of you can commit to represent all of us at the meeting? I will create another event and invite folks for it again. Let us know what you think and if you are available.

Things may have shifted a bit, but I think we are definitely on their radar and the Parks division (Emy) is on our side. I will find out information on the Oct. 1st meeting where the decision is made on that new parcel of land for the city to buy. I think we have a great chance of being the group considered for the land.

If we want the maximum people to show up at this meeting, someone needs to put up some flyers at creekside and the U to get the word out. I'm willing to put up a flyer at the U. Also, we need to inform the people we see on the course and tell them to tell people they see. A very small percentage of the people who play follow this forum or even know this website exists.

Hello all. I just thought that I touch base again on some digging that I did as far as the development of new disc golf course in good ole Salt Lake. As you all may know, Salt Lake County is hosting two (2) disc golf tourneys next month at Creekside and Valley Regional. When I saw that I got pretty excited because I figured, hey this might be a good opportunity to touch base with the county and see what it would take to get some new disc golf courses installed. I spoke with a dude at the county by the name of Phil Eddings. Pretty chill dude. He basically said that the county parks and rec department are down with getting new disc golf courses in, but adding new courses in the valley are not part of the Salt Lake County's master plan. He gave an example, Crestwood Park. I don't know if any of you have been there, but there is a ton of open space there that could totally fit an 18 hole disc golf course. Salt Lake Parks and Rec are aware of it, but a disc golf course is not part of the county's master plan for that park.

With that I mentioned to Phil, what can be done to change that and potentially get a disc golf course installed. This is what he said. We, as disc golfers, would need to present to the county the growing interest of disc golf in general and show that the public would like to see more disc golf courses installed. How would we do that? Phil told me that we could get 500 signatures of peeps who would like to see new disc golf courses. Every week, Salt Lake County has an open meeting to the public where the public has an opportunity to present any issues or things they would like to see done by the county. If we were to show up to one of those meetings and show public interest in disc golf and the development of new courses, that could put disc golf on the "master plan". We would need to give them some examples of parks that a disc golf course could go into, like Crestwood Park. Also let them know that from and expense standpoint, it is relatively cheap to install a new disc golf course.

So I dunno, I would love to get this ball rolling with anyone else who would like to get involved. If we had one or two more courses added in the valley that would be super sweet. Maybe get a new 18 hole course in Crestwood and potentially get another course like in the south west part of the valley, like in Riverton or South Jordan or something.

What are your guys thoughts?

Us fellas down here in Salt Lake should have something similar over the summer don't you think??? Like the Salt Lake Valley Hukathon or something. Have like a 4 or 5 course thing like they did for the Golden Spike series. Course would be Creekside, Valley Regional, maybe the U or U's course, potentially Fairmont, ... more

We can call it "saturday ace race" or "saturday singles" at Tville (valley regional) To play it will be 5 dollars straight up. 3 dollars for the buy-in and 2 dollars for the ace pot. Since it will be an ace race, we will choose random long holes to make a temporary short tee pad for the day. I think each week we should do something unique and random each week but i haven't thought of anything yet. The other idea i had was instead of a 2 dollar ace pot, we ... more

We do not sell discs, but for the freeze fest i did order 50 putters and minis to give out as players packages, and some other neat discs and as far as joining the club it would be I or Ryan Ranes who have the tags
